‘The Healing’ was created alongside my music EP Land of Thunder — a body of work inspired by the quiet process of finding one’s way back to oneself after having endured profound loss. For me this rehabilitation process involved heavily communing with the beautiful natural landscapes of Germany.
When looking at the painting in a contemplative mind, layers of botanical forms, branches and roots, elemental textures and hidden shapes emerge differently for each viewer. Some discover flowers or forests, others perceive figures, spirits, landscapes or memories. There is no single interpretation and that is the point of this artwork: contemplation, meditation, divination, scrying even.
Painted over the course of several weeks using numerous layers of acrylic and hand-mixed colors, this artwork gradually reveals itself: Metallic pigments catch the light throughout the day, allowing subtle details to appear and disappear depending on the viewing angle and surrounding light. The painting is intended to remain alive, changing with its environment and with the position of the person standing before it.
For me during the creation, it became clear that ‘The Healing’ is meant to be an invitation into a liminal space: between grief and renewal, between the seen and the unseen, between the conscious, subconscious and even superconscious mind. Whether approached as meditation, quiet reflection, or simply an abstract work of art, it offers space for answers to emerge from the contents of the deeper layers of your own psyche. What stares back at you when you let the painting take you into the liminal spaces of your current unfolding in that moment?

Scrying Art (coined by Elina Auriel to define her artistic practice) is a contemplative form of layered abstract painting designed to invite meditative observation, symbolic perception and personal interpretation. Rather than depicting a fixed narrative, ‘Scrying Art’ reveals different forms, emotions and meanings depending on the viewer, the light and the moment of observation.
Like traditional forms of scrying (looking into water, smoke, mirrors or crystals), Scrying Art paintings are designed to become a reflective surface for the psyche.
Each work unfolds differently depending on the viewer, the surrounding light, the distance from which it is observed and even one’s emotional state. Shapes emerge and dissolve. Botanical forms may become faces, landscapes may become memories, and what is hidden one day may become obvious the next.
There is no incorrect interpretation.
The artwork does not tell you what to see, it simply invites you to look within.
