Scrying Art (coined by Elina Auriel to define her artistic practice) is a contemplative form of layered abstract painting designed to invite meditative observation, symbolic perception and personal interpretation. Rather than depicting a fixed narrative, ‘Scrying Art’ reveals different forms, emotions and meanings depending on the viewer, the light and the moment of observation.
ELINA AURIEL has partnered with Printumo to offer premium canvas and fine art paper prints that are produced using museum-quality giclée printing technology, delivering exceptional detail and color accuracy that showcases artworks at their best. Each print is made on archival-grade canvas or paper, ensuring longevity and a timeless presentation.
Like traditional forms of scrying (looking into water, smoke, mirrors or crystals), Scrying Art paintings are designed to become a reflective surface for the psyche. Each work unfolds differently depending on the viewer, the surrounding light, the distance from which it is observed and even one’s emotional state. Shapes emerge and dissolve. Botanical forms may become faces, landscapes may become memories, and what is hidden one day may become obvious the next. There is no incorrect interpretation. The artwork does not tell you what to see, it simply invites you to look within.
It Began…
”… when I was a small child and I would see abstract images with unique colors and shades in my mind’s eye.
I asked my parents to take me to painting classes but when I saw that the kids at those classes were being forced to color inside the lines of printed out pages of cartoon characters I screamed and ran out in bewilderment.
In Kindergarten I knew I wanted to paint mermaids as a concept so I created an abstract landscape with oceanic waves, foam and sprinkles only to have my art destroyed by the teacher (and the kids around motivated by said teacher) because ”that’s not what we are doing”. I proceeded to sketch a generic mermaid-looking person like everyone else but still they were not happy with me because ”why is her skin blue-green”… As a kid already then I was genuinely shocked that people lacked even the basic ability to imagine that the skin of a mermaid would reflect the depths of the underwater world she came from – let alone details like the rays of the sun around her as they penetrate through the surface of the waters…
Ultimately, I stole my older sister’s painting supplies at home and emptied a whole deep green on a piece of A4 paper, adding stickers and creating an abstract map. I was met with anger and my art was destroyed and thrown in the garbage. I remember sobbing over the garbage bin feeling like I was going to die to see my art torn to pieces.
In 2022 I grabbed a brush for the first time as an adult, with the intention to heal that last traumatic memory as it offered itself for processing during a Shadow Work integration exercise. My partner cheered me on all the way from the painting supplies shop to when I finally showed him in tears my first abstract piece (I used in purpose that same deep green shade…).
From that moment on, something healed in me. And at the same time something couldn’t stay quiet in me and wanted to be expressed! And that is how I started creating my Scrying Art paintings, mixing acrylic and other natural materials such as ashes, resins, incense.

LAND OF THUNDER: ‘The Healing’

When looking at the painting in a contemplative mind, layers of botanical forms, branches and roots, elemental textures and hidden shapes emerge differently for each viewer. Some discover flowers or forests, others perceive figures, spirits, landscapes or memories.
There is no single interpretation and that is the point of this artwork: contemplation, meditation, divination, scrying even.
Painted over the course of several weeks using numerous layers of acrylic and hand-mixed colors, this artwork gradually reveals itself.
‘The Healing’ is meant to be an invitation into a liminal space: between grief and renewal, between the seen and the unseen, between the conscious, subconscious and even superconscious mind.
Whether approached as meditation, quiet reflection, or simply an abstract work of art, it offers space for answers to emerge from the contents of the deeper layers of your own psyche.

‘WINGS’ is inspired by Elina’s connection with the Angelic realms and aims to bring exciting elevation, joy and spirituality in a space with rich reds, light orange hues and specs of blue.

‘THISTLE’ is inspired by Elina’s visit to Scotland (the thistle is Scotland’s national emblem), and summer walks in the Greek island nature where she would see thistles growing wildly on the sides of the road; admiring the plant’s beauty yet fierceness and resilience, pondering the possible reasons why the Greek language named such a beautiful plant ‘Donkey Thorn’.
